Southern Checker Tournament
The Southern Checker Tournament will be held
July 10th - 12th , 2009 in Americas Best Value Inn & Suites, Lebanon, TN
. Tournament is Friday through Sunday. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN THE DATES. The inn is located on Highway 231 (822 Cumberland Street) near I-40 (take exit 238 north). PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN THE DATES. On Friday, July 10, registration begins at 9 am followed by a business meeting at 10 am. Tournament play will begin at 11 am. The tournament will consist of 8 rounds: 3 rounds on Friday, 4 rounds on Saturday, 1 round on Sunday. For reservations, call 1-615-449-5991 and tell them you are a checker player. ACF "Jim Morrison" National Tournament (GAYP)
The ACF "Jim Morrison" National Tournament (GAYP) will be held
August 3rd - 7th , 2009 in Americas Best value Inn and Suites, Lebanon, TN
. Mr. Frank Davis has submitted the bid for hosting this years GAYP National Tournament in Lebanon, TN. Nationals will be held August 1-7 at the Americas Best value Inn and Suites. Longtime youth sponsor Mr. Victor Niederhoffer will again sponsor the weekend youth tournament (age 21 and under) held each year in honor of his late father, Arthur Niederhoffer. I wish to publicly recognize Mr. Niederhoffer for his continued support of our young players, who will one day be our adult players in the ACF.
The host hotel is located on Highway 231 (822 Cumberland Street) near I-40 (take exit 238 North off I-40). Call the hotel and reserve your room early : 1-615-449-5781. Frank Davis number at his home: 1-931-552-4246. Mrs. Kimberly Willis will be referee for the week-end youth event. For the Nationals Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davis will serve as co-referees for the week of play.
Hotel is offering a per nite rate of $45.00 plus tax. I suggest you find a roommate for the week and split the cost. Also this year the playing room is free and if needed players can spill over into the reception/breakfast area just past the check-in area. Players might even find a shady spot outside to play ! The host hotel is very happy to have us for a week and will do all they can to accommodate all players. The main thing is to come and compete, make new friends, see old friends, and immerse yourself for a week of Checkers/Draughts. Mr. Frank Davis and J.R. Smith are looking for donations and will accept any and all .
Entry fees will be $50 (Master’s) / $30 (Majors) / $20 (Minors). ACF Membership is required to enter all divisions, and may be paid at registration. Registration will take place Monday morning Aug. 3 from 8:30-10:30 followed by a business meeting. Format will be 13 two-game rounds (2 rounds Monday, 3 rounds Tuesday through Thursday, two rounds Friday) scored by game. Three points are awarded for a bye and for a forfeited round.
Jim Morrison won the 1991 & 1995 GAYP Nationals, the 2005 World Qualifier, and has played for the GAYP world title four times. Jim has represented USA in several international matches, including being the USA #1 seed in 2005. Jim resides in Glasgow, KY, not far from Lebanon, TN. World Qualifying Tournament (GAYP)
The World Qualifying Tournament (GAYP) will be held
August 31st - September 4th , 2009 in Isle of Wight, England
. The World GAYP Qualifying Tournament to be played at The Town Club, Ryde, Isle of Wight during the week commencing Monday 31st August to Friday 4th September. The EDA will provide £500 to be distributed £250 to the winner and Qualifier, £150 to the runner- up, £100 3rd., and playing equipment for the event. The highest placed lady could qualifying to play Amangul in 2010 if no other tournament is arranged. It will be Carnival Week in Ryde, with spectacular processions on at least 2 occasions as an added attraction. Two nominations are allowed per federation. Ohio State Tournament
The Ohio State Tournament will be held
September 12th - 13th , 2009 in Rodeway Inn, Medina, OH
. Entry fee is $10.00. Registration on Saturday from 9:00-9:30 am with play beginning at 9:30 am. Seven rounds of play using 3-move restriction (156-opening deck). Master players: time clocks and recording of games will be employed. Please note that ACF membership is required and may be paid during registration.
The Rodeway Inn Medina Conference Center is located on 2875 Medina Road on the Northeast corner of I-71 interchange with state highway 18 (exit 218, just south of where I-71 and I-271 merge).
